Candied Yams

This instructable will show you how to make simple & delicious pan-fried candied yams (& sweet potatoes).

I am actually using a large sweet potato and not a yam in these photos but "Candied Sweet Potatoes" just doesn't have the same ring to it. I usually use both yams and sweet potatoes because sweet potatoes taste better and then the name is still accurate when I call them "Candied Yams."

The sweet potatoes are huge here and I only use half of the smallest one I could find in this recipe... Back East there are often much smaller tubers available so it is easier to get a couple each of yams and sweet potatoes to mix together.

You Will Need:

Yam(s) or Sweet Potato(es)
Salted Butter
Brown or Golden Sugar

&

Pot
Pan
Large Knife

Chop

Par-boil the smaller pieces, strain and set aside.

Use a small amount of butter to grease a large frying pan and once heated add the strained yam pieces.

Sweeten

After the yam bits have been frying for a few minutes and have begun to brown, sprinkle brown sugar all over them and then flip.

You should only need a tablespoon or two of brown sugar.

Serve

After flipping and a bit more browning, remove from heat and serve.

These go great with any autumn meal and make a wonderful addition to holiday dinners such as Thanksgiving or Christmas.
