Canvas Shoes!
LETS PUT A SMILE ON THAT...SHOE?
Good News Everyone!
You're all probably wondering why I've gathered you all here today, well I have a fun project for you! A project that will make you the coolest Bat around!
The Concepts:
You can transfer an image onto a canvas by covering the back of said image with graphite/lead pencil (simply shading like a maniac with your pencil) and then tracing the front of the image by following the lines to produce a transfer onto another surface.
Materials:
- Canvas Shoes (Try Walmart or Old Navy)
- Sharpie Fine Point Pens (non Bleeding)
- Staedtler Markers/Pens (OPTIONAL, but seriously these are great)
- Printer paper
Step 1: Transfer
First: Fill the shoe with newspaper to help it hold a firm shape. Try and do a good job of this and make the surface smooth and workable.
Now here is where your creative outputs really come in handy. You can either create your own work of art or if you're so inclined or simply print an image you find interesting and begin by covering the back of said image in pencil graphite/lead and tracing (with the shaded side down) the image onto the canvas shoe.
Step 2: Ink It
Yes. Ink it. That is all.
Actually no, you need to understand a few things here, unless you have very distinct markers/pens youre gonna need to work on shading this in creative ways, I find crossed lines and the distance between lines adds this effect. Use this to your advantage and test your markers on a spare sheet of paper to make sure you can produce the colour/shade or effect you desire.
Step 3: Get Creative
The design on the sides of Batman shoe was done freehand and so was the Joker's mouth, its adapted from a comic cover. All in all I used 4 different markers to make this.
IMPORTANT:
DO: Spray your canvas shoes with Clear Acrylic if you would like to protect your art.
DON'T: Stop believing, hold onto that feeling.
