Caprisun Pouch Heelstraps for Sandals

Alright, so this came from a mixture of inspirations that all kind of happened at once. It started with the arrival of ingrown toenails on both of my feet which required me to wear open toe shoes. So I busted out the old flip-flops, but then remembered something I read about how flip-flops can cause back problems because they cause you to shorten your gait.

So I decided the course of action to take would be to create some heelstraps instead of buying new sandals I was reminded of these nifty bags made from Capri-sun packaging( www.instructables.com/id/Recycled-Juice-Pouch-Purse/ ). I also thought this would be a great use of the free crocs rivets I try to use in almost everything I do.

So let's get to it!

Tools:
Dart Awl
Sewing machine or needle
Scissors

Materials:
Thread
Capri sun pouches
Sandals without a heelstrap
Crocs rivets

   The first thing that needs to be done is cleaning. To do this, slice an opening in the bottom of each pouch to wash it out with water.  You should also use the abrasive side of a sponge to remove the glue from where the straw was attached.

   Now I ended up using 5 pouches for both sandals: Two to be put end to end for a strap, and 1 to be cut in half with each half being use as a backing strip for the joining of two pouches. Each pouch should be folded in half long ways and sewn so that they are half the width and twice the thickness.

   Optional: You could fold the edges of the pouch inward to eliminate any sharp edges.

  Now you want to put two folded pouches end to end and place a half of a folded pouch on the joint to connect them and sew together in an X pattern. If using a needle it help to have something to push the needle against.

   To attach the straps all you need is an awl or other sharp object and some rivets. Poke a hole at each end of the straps and poke a hole on the strap of the sandal that goes around your foot. Put the rivet through the wholes and pop them together and you're done. Enjoy.
