So you want to do a Captain Boomerang Cosplay, huh? Well, boomerangs aren't cheap and Captain Boomerangs has a ton of them. So, as a new cosplayer, I've decided to make my own :) As is apparent in the movie, Captain Boomerang uses knives to build his boomerangs. We're going to make it a lot safer and more affordable.

Material

First, you need the bare minimum for the boomerangs.

1) Cardboard
2) A pair of scissors
3) Black Paracord String (can be found at any hobby/craft store)
4) A pencil
5) Thick Sewing String
6) Reflective Metallic Duct Tape

Knives

Take your pencil and draw the length of a knife on your cardboard. Make sure it is not too wide as your reflective duct tape will need to cover the whole knife. You can curve it, keep it straight, or even make it jagged. Just keep in mind that the more detail you add to the edge of the "knife" the more work you'll have to do later on.

Once you've finished drawing your knife, cut it out and use it as a template for your second knife. Depending on how thick you want to make your knife, you can make a few more copies and slap them together when you go to duct taping.

Knife Levels

At this point, you should have at least two pieces of cardboard in the shape of knives. You want to take your sewing string and cut it a little longer than the length of your knives. This will end up bringing more detail to them. Cut a little slip in the top of your pieces and slide the string through it.Tape the string on the backs and run the rest of the string through the front and down to the base of the pieces.

Optionally, if you have created more pieces for thickness, you can tape the pieces together now.

Making Them Shiny

Now that the blades have been formed, you can take your metallic reflective duct tape and run it the length of your knives. Make sure that you place the tape over the edges as close as possible. When you go to do the other side, cut the tape as close as possible again.

Putting the Knives Together

Now comes a tricky part. I used regular duct tape for this, but you can still use reflective duct tape. You need to put the two knives together now. Use duct tape to go around both ends and place them together as you want. I placed these ones at a 90 degree angle. To get a better feel and look, try 100-110 degree angle.

Adding the Detail

Last step!! Get out your paracord string and wrap around the bottom of the combined pieces. This is to go over the duct tape and to add details from the movie. I'd say around 5-7 feet should be good. You just want to keep wrapping it as much as possible to give the look that you've covered up the handles of the knives. Hopefully this has helped someone out. I plan on doing a few more as well :) Thanks for reading!
