Ingredients and Utensils
Ingredients:
6 qts popcorn
2 cups light brown sugar
2 cups real butter
½ cup Karo syrup
¼ tsp cream of tartar
Dash of salt
1 bag of milk chocolate chips
1-3 tbs vegatable oil
Pam
Utensils:
Oven/stove
Glass bowl
Bowl
Pot
Medium sauce pan
Thermometer
Baking pan
Wooden spoon
Measuring cups
Foil
9 x 13 glass dish
Prepare the Popcorn
Heat the oil in the pot on the stove at medium heat.
Add popcorn kernels to the pot and continue to heat the pot. Place the lid on the pot and occasionally stir the kernels until the popcorn is mostly popped.
Spray the cooking pan with Pam and pour the popped popcorn into the baking pan.
Prepare the Caramel
After cleaning out the pot, mix in brown sugar, butter, Karo syrup, cream of tartar and salt. Heat the pan on stove at high heat (260 F, using thermometer). Stir the mixture until fully mixed and melted.
(If you want the caramel to be softer, heat to 240 F. Heating to 260 F will give you a harder caramel.)
Combine and Cook the Caramel and Popcorn
Pour the melted caramel evenly over the popcorn in the pan. Stir the popcorn and caramel in the pan. Place the popcorn in the oven for 1 hour at 200 F. Stir the popcorn every 20 minutes.
Prepare the Chocolate Drizzle
Pour the bag of chocolate chips into the sauce pan. Heat the chocolate chips on low heat and stir continuously until fully melted.
(This can be done while the popcorn is in the oven, but be sure to melt the chocolate just before the popcorn is done baking.)
Spread Popcorn on Foil
Once the popcorn is finished baking, pour the popcorn out onto a pan covered in foil. Make sure the popcorn is evenly spread over the pan.
Add the Chocolate Drizzle
Evenly drizzle the melted chocolate over the popcorn. Let the chocolate harden.
