This is a simple, but awesome way to use a leftover cereal box. I did a Christmas theme here but you can do anything you want. The end result is a very sturdy card that can withstand even long-distance mailing. Kids especially like to make these.

Supplies

You will need:

  • An empty cereal box
  • scissors
  • modge podge or glue
  • a piantbrush
  • scrapbook paper
  • straight edge or rotary cutter
  • pencil
  • things for decorating your card

Cut Your Cardboard to Unfolded Size

Cut your cardboard using a rotary cutter. You want it to be a single layer of cardboard. For my example, I measured mine at 6 inches wide and 12 inches in length.

Cut Scrapbook Paper to Size

Cut your scrapbook paper to the same size as your cardboard. This is going to be the outside of your card. Use glue or modge podge to affix the paper to the cardboard.

Cut a Second Piece of Scrapbook Paper

Cut a second piece of scrapbook paper the same size as the first. This is going to be the inside of your card.

Cut Slits in Paper for Inside of Card

Fold the scrapbook paper in half. The part of the paper facing outwards is going to be glued to the card, while the inside will be what you see when the card is opened.

Cut 6 slits in the paper. These 6 slits will make 3 places where you can glue the part of the card that pops.

Pop Out Slits and Glue to Inside of Card

Push the slits made in the previous step inside-out. Open up the folded piece of scrapbook paper and glue it to the inside of the card.

Make Decorations for Inside of Card

Use construction paper to make your pop up elements. Glue to the bottom of the slit, not the top.

Let the glue dry before you close the card or you might glue it shut!

Decorate as desired for the rest of the card.

Enjoy!
