Neanderthal Cave Paintings

I came across an ancient inscribed rock depicting inscriptions. I decided that it is time to take over the art and craft of building things from them and be more responsible.

I found it interesting to create because ancient cave painting and inscriptions were the only way to communicate with others. Now, there are multiple modes of communication but we can't forget where this type originates from.

I used cardboard, papier mache and black/brown paint to create it. I also used metallic foil to create the inscribed effect and then painted it to make it appear as a wall and papier mache to create the rocky-terrain texture.

It took me 4 days to create because of the papier mache.

1. Brown paint. - Wall color.
2. Black paint. - base color for wall.
3. Cardboard box. - rock base structure.
4. Glue. - papier mache
5. Newspaper. - papier mache
6. flour. - papier mache
7. Blender machine/ - to blend papier mache mix.
8. Aluminium foil (generally used in cooking) - to make inscription.
9. Printer - to print out inscribed image.

Print the ancient wall writings.

Use a pencil/pen (any device would work provided it does not tear the paper) to trace the painting on the foil. A visible painting should be created on the foil as shown.

Create papier mache mixture to create a pasty substance. Use a blender to mix newspaper pieces, glue, flour and some salt to prevent rotting.

Take the cardboard box, give it a rocky shape, distort it into a convex stone shape.

Apply base layer of mache to it, tap the mixture to give it a rocky texture.

Place metal foil over the base layer of mache.

Make sure the mache is not too wet because then it would ferment instead of solidifying.

Then, compose the foil and mache so that the foil is in the center and the mache is outside as if, they are part of one stone discovered during digging through the rocky terrain.

I have used a base black on the rocks and a brown over it while for the ancient carvings, I have used brown mixed with a small amount of black paint.

1. Make the stone into an ovoid rather than using a rectangular cardboard box. A piñata can be used.
2. Use the top of the box as a wallpaper to decorate in room as ancient human carved.
3. Cover the cardboard piece with a transparent box to display in your customized museum.
4. Place it in your showcase to show-off to guests.
