Ceiling Fan Blade Book Shelf

Hi this is my first Instructable I had some fan blades from an burnt out ceiling fan i was saving for a project lying around and decided to use them to make an book shelf.

The tools you will need is:

1X bench Vice

1X paint can

1x can of machine fluid

1X grinder with flaper disk

1X hack saw

1X water level

2X files

1X phillips screw driver

1X marking pencil

1X dial caliper

1X hand drill with hammer action and concrete drill bit

1X press drill with a clamp and metal drill bit

1X welding machine

and safety equipment

The materials:

3X Fan blades

4X screws and wall plugs

1X 160cm flat bar.

Measure two 55cm lengths of the flat bar and clamp it into the bench vice. Cut the bar with the hack saw I used some machine fluid to make it easier.Cut six 8cm lengths from the remaining flat bar.

I took the old trustee arc welder and welded three of the 8cm flat bar lengths to the 55cm length. the first one is 5 cm the next one at 30 cm and the last one at 50 cm. This was my first attempt at welding so please excuse my bad welds. I had watched a welding course by a you tuber called ChuckE 009 which helped a lot.

After I was done with both I used the grinder and flaper disk to clean up my welds and then the files to smooth the whole project of any sharp edges.

Next I marked where the holes should be to fasten it to the wall and used the press drill and clamp to drill them.

Next I painted them with some rustolem paint aas the has primer built in which just saves time. If you are going to paint it with normal paint you will need to put on a good primer to stop it from rusting.

I had some existing holes from a old shelf that was removed a long time ago which i used as a starting point. I screwed the bottom of the mounting bracket i had made in and used the the water level to make sure i had it strait. Once I was happy with the location I used the marking pencil i marked where I wanted to drill. Just as a word of warning the old adage of measure twice drill once came up as I had drilled in the wrong location.

Take the srews and wall plugs and screw the brackets on to the wall and just lay the blades down on the brackets.

Now all that is left is put your favorite books on the shelf and admire your work.
