Cen-Tech Infrared Thermometer Mount

Got thermometer? Gotta have a mount.

This instructable shows how to mount a Cen-Tech Infrared Thermometer on a camera mount. Mounting the thermometer is very handy if you want to watch temperature change over time.

After I started playing with my new thermometer it became clear that a way to mount the unit was really needed. Holding the thermometer steady for any amount of time is a major pain the the @#$%&*().

Prep for Nut Mounting

Every camera mount I have ever seen uses a 1/4" x 20 thread. Finding a 1/4 x 20 nut was easy enough. Finding a way to mount the nut on the thremometer is another mater.

I decided to mount the nut just inside the battery compartment. However, there is a plastic rib in the compartment that is in the way. I used a small chisel to remove just enough of the rib to make room for the nut.

Gluing the Nut

Next came my attempt to epoxy the nut into the handle.

Turns out that epoxy does not stick to this kind of plastic very well. Not sure what kind of glue would work well. The plastic has a rubber feel to it so I suspect nothing is going to stick well.

Oh well, it's not that important to have the nut glued in solid. Once the thermometer is attached to the mount, the nut is not going anywhere. The glue only comes into play when the thermometer is off the camera mount.

Screw Hole Comes Next

More carving to open up a hole on the bottom of the handle.

Opening for Nut Clearance

Just a bit more carving to make clearance for the nut to slide by.

Be real careful not to cut into the slots that mate with the tabs on the battery cover.
