I want to make prototype of chair. Normal prototype chair use wood, MDF for making chair easily

In my chair i want to make prototype of chair with threaded rod 6 mm in diameter.

I started with Tinkercad to make circular rod and make fixtures to joint all rod together to make chair(Picture 1).

With Tinkercad features comes out very good and we export it for 3d printed file for making prototype.

prototype size is 1:5.

But we need some enhancement in design of fixture to make it more rigid in prototype.so, we use fusion360 to design same fixture with same dimension. Fusion360 help me to design geometry more rigid.

Supplies

1> 3d printer

2>Computer for design

3>threaded rod 6mm in diameter

4> MDF

5> Glue Gun

I design all components in Tinkercad.

Starting from cylindrical rod as a threaded rod(6mm in diameter).

Position rods in form of chair legs and sit.

Make a fixture using various shapes to make it rigid. Fixture helps threaded rod to make rigid structure.

Design & Render in Fusion360.

  • For make a change in fixture design i use fusion360 for complex design.
  • Fusion360 has its own tools to make engineering design and manufacturing workflow very easy.
  • I import my Tinkercad design in fusion360.
  • Make a same design in Fusion360 with More detail.
  • Also i use Render workspace for making photo realistic render images.
  • For making realistic render first we need to apply appearances to all components.
  • Apply wooden appearance to chair’s cylindrical rod.
  • Apply white plastic appearance to fixtures.

Difference Between Two Software

  • First i use tinkercad for making fixtures but at some point of complex detail i don't do more work.
  • with fusion360 i make more complex design .
  • Compare 2 different fixture design.
  • first one design in Tinkercad which is look good but not provide more rigid support .
  • Second pone is design in fusion360 which is more rigid and complex design.

Use Drawing Workspace

I use Drawing workspace to generate design drawings.

Main part is 2 different type of fixture to fix cylindrical rod to make chair prototype.

I export fixture design from fusion360 as a .STL file for make it 3d print.

I have Ender-3 3D printer and use cura as a slicer.

Parameter of Cura.

  • Layer height : 0.2 mm
  • Top/bottom: 4
  • Infill: 20%
  • Support: yes
  • Build adhesion : brim
  • Material : PLA

I use Threaded rod as Cylindrical wooden rod to make a chair rigid.

I cut 130 mm x 4 pieces and 200 mm x 2 pieces for making chair.

Threaded rod make chair more rigid. Use Glue gun to fix threaded rod with 3D printed fixture parts.

Now my chair prototype is ready to show.
