Champagne Cork Gandalf

This is my fourth Instructable about a Corky. I'm a big fan of The Lord of the Rings, and I watched the first part of The Hobbit just recently (it was great), so I decided to make a character from LotR out of a Champagne Cork. I chose Gandalf the Grey, because he is probably one of the most distinct and significant characters throughout the trilogy and The Hobbit.

Supplies

The first thing you'll have to do is to get all the supplies you need. Here's what I used:
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Black permanent markers
  • UHU universal glue
  • Craft Knife
  • Scraps of grey and brown fabric
  • Small pieces of Cork
  • Twigs
  • Scraps of artificial fur
  • Champagne Cork

Face

Before you do anything else, use a fine permanent marker to draw the face. The reason why it's important to do this first is because it's easily messed up, making it really frustrating if you leave it for last, then make a mistake.
To make him look old and more like Gandalf I drew lines over his eyes.
Then, for the nose I cut up pieces of cork to create a tiny nose. Even though noses aren't usually necessary for Corkies, Corkies with beard and moustaches look a bit strange without them (I did the same thing with my Santa Corky). I used UHU glue to attach the nose, but wood glue wood probably work better.

To make Gandalf's robe, cut a strip of grey fabric just long enough to go around the cork. Glue it on with UHU glue.
For his cloak, get another, slightly smaller piece, and glue it on at the top, around the collar. Only glueing it at the top will allow it to flap around like a cloak.
Finally, cut a rectangular piece of fabric that fits around the cloak, and fold in the corners to make a triangle. Glue it on by the top edge to create the hood.

Hair

Here comes the tricky bit. To make Gandalf's hair, spread UHU over the surface that is to get hair, then take a wad of artificial white or grey fur and spread it across the glued surface.
Do this for the hair, the beard, the moustache, and the eyebrows.
For the beard, however, remember that only the top need to be glued, so it hangs loose.

Hat

For Gandalf's infamous wizard hat cut out a circle of fabric, just the right size. Cut into the middle of the circle and overlap the fabric to make it slighly conical.
Then cut out another circle, and cut out at least a third of it. Overlap the edges and glue.
Glue the two parts of the hat together and stick it onto Gandalf's head.

Staff

The last step is to make Gandalf's wooden staff.
To make it, find a twig and snap it off at a branching part. This will give it the staff a nice twisted top.
Attach the staff to Gandalf with glue and a pin.

Done!
