Cheese Flower

Looking for something fun, and easy to make? Looking for an edible center or side piece? Here's a fun little cheese flower that you can make. No experience with food, or food art? Don't worry, this is a simple beginner level piece you can make.

Supplies

Sliced Cheese (You can use any cheese you want, just as long as it's sliced.)

Babybel Cheese (You can also you a chunk of a cheese block.)

Bowl, and plate (small size works best.)

Cutting - Layer One

When making the petals, your going to make a couple of different cuts for the desired cheese shapes.

For the first layer, all your going to do is take a square piece of cheese, and cut it down the middle diagonally, making two triangles.

Now its time to fold the cheese on the fist layer. (Sorry I don't have a vid, Instructables won't let me embed the video. Images are of paper mock up)

Your going take your cheese triangle, and fold it like you would a paper fan. I had four layers, just because of the size of my cheese, and I would suggest doing 4 layers if your using store bought sliced cheese, but if you have larger cheese you can experiment.

When you fold your going to want to make sure that you fold along the longest side so when you look at it you see a zig-zag with the folds.

Laying the Fist Layer.

Once you have enough pieces folded for the first layer your going to lay the all in a bowl, slightly overlapping them.

Cutting - Layer Two

For this layer, what I did for the cuts was cut the corners off the edges of the squares of cheese

Folding - Layer Two

For this layer, your simply going to fold the two smaller triangles in half, and then in half again.

Layering the Second Layer

Before you layer the second layer your going to want to stick some kind of cheese chunk in the middle of the fist later, where the hole is that the cheese surrounded it.

After this, your going to lay the cheese down just like the first layer.

Final Layer

This layer is different as it's more of just a finishing piece. Now you can continue making folds with the cheese until it fills up and makes a dome, but for me I chose to go an easier route and made a topper. I took a single babybel cheese and cut a little indent into it, and then took three pieces of semicircle peperoni and rolled them up. Next I held them together before setting them inside of the indented cheese.

Finally, I took my little topper, and set in in the middle of the cheese, on the highest level.

I made a little mini-bouquet of flower with the scrap cheese from layer two, and the wax of the Babybel.

I took the middle piece and cut it down the middle. After that I rolled it up, and then stuck three of them into the half circle of wax. (Shorter side down.)

Et Voila, You Have a Beginners Level Cheese Flower.

This is really simple, and fun to make and it takes no cooking or decorating skills at all!
