Cheesy Herb Buns
These homemade cheese buns are yummy, healthy and fun to make! They use herbs from the garden which are a really fresh, summer flavour.
These go great with a bowl of chili, soup, eggs, or anything!
Ingredients
Get the following ingredients ready to use:
Whole wheat flour
All purpose white flour
Active dry yeast
Table salt
Mozzarella cheese
Fresh herbs (I used parsley, dill, cilantro, basil and chives)
Make Bread Dough
300grams water (about 1 1/4 cups)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp yeast
100grams whole wheat flour (about 3/4 cup)
300grams all-purpose white flour (about 2 1/2 cups)
Mix together, leave it to rest for 3 hours and then mix again. Leave it again for another 2 hours and then sprinkle with about a tablespoon of flour.
Remove from the bowl and knead on a clean surface to work out the bubbles.
Cut and Grate
Chop up the herbs into fine bits.
Grate 100 grams of cheese.
Make Dough Balls
Weigh out about 50 grams of dough.
Sprinkle your surface with a bit of four and roll each bun dough blog into a flat blob.
Add Fixing
Add a small amount of cheese and herbs to the flat dough blob.
Roll up the blob ensuring the end sticks together so it doesn't unroll.
Bake
Arrange the buns on parchment paper and cover with a tinfoil lid.
Note/tip: the tinfoil top can easily be made using a large round bowl.
Let the buns rise for 15 minutes before baking at 222C (430F) for 22 minutes.
Remove the foil cap and broil at 233C (450F) for 5 minutes to make the top golden.
Let cool, tear the buns apart and enjoy.
