Cherry Pineapple Dump Cake

My mother used to make this easy desert when we were small. It never got to cool after it came out of the oven. When you are making desert for 9 kids and our dad, she needed something quick, easy, and delicious. After moving out of my parents home my mother bought me a crock pot. I had no clue how to even use the thing and it sat in the box for about a year.

One day I had a craving for moms Dump Cake and wondered if I could make it in the the crock pot. I did not, and still don't have an oven. Thanks to my best friend Google I found some instructions for using a crock pot and decided to give it a whirl. After a few tries much to my delight, it worked. Now I have a better friend than Google, my crock pot. YUM!

By the way the crock pot in the photos is still the one my mother bought me 12 years ago.

Dump the fruit into the crock pot (hence the name dump cake). Give it a stir to mix the pineapple and the cherries.

Open the box of cake mix and dump it on top of the mixed fruits.

Smooth out the top of the cake mix over the fruit.

Pour the melted butter on top of the cake mix. Slightly stir the melted butter into the dry cake mix.

Finish and Eat

Plug in the crock pot and put it on low for about 3 hours. This time really depends on the crock pot and the air temperature in your kitchen. It will start to smell so good and look bubbly around the edges. I sometimes crack the lid at the last 20 minutes so that the moisture can escape. This will firm up the middle so it doesn't look like pudding. It will still taste good if you don't.

Top with some vanilla ice cream and SWOON!

PS. I have even eaten this for breakfast topped with yogurt. Don't tell my mother :) Enjoy and Chow!
