Line the Dutch oven with aluminum foil for easy clean-up.

The Secret Ingredient

Push the dark chocolate kisses point down into the cherry mixture.

Further Preparation

Cover the cherries and chocolate with a dry chocolate cake mix. I used a Red Velvet mix because it's what I had on hand.

Final Prep

Cut up the butter and layer it on top of the cake mix.

Baking

Put the lid on the Dutch oven

Set oven in a bed of coals with twice as much coals on top as under

Cooking time varies by how hot and number of coals used.

I find it best to go by smell, bake for 20 minutes and check every 10 minutes after that until the top cake mix part has turned solid and the fruit juice is bubbling.

Serving Suggestions

Once the cake is done, you can either serve immediately with the chocolate still liquid, or wait until it cools.

It is great with ice cream or whipped cream. Leftovers are wonderful the next day.
