Cheesymite Bread
Living overseas has its highlights but there are always things from home that my family and I miss. One of our favourites are the Cheesymite Rolls from the local bakery. So here is my recipe for Cheesymite Bread. A recipe that has quickly become a family favourite.
Ingredients
330ml lukewarm water
11g dried yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon oil
500g bread flour
50g tasty cheese, grated
vegemite
Mix the yeast in a bowl with the water and sugar. Leave to rest for 15 minutes. (until it gets frothy)
Add the salt and oil. Mix.
Put the flour in to the bowl of an electric beater. Using the dough hook mix on speed '1' for 2 minutes.
Turn dial to speed '2', mix for a further 4 minutes.
Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
Leave to prove at room temperature for 1 hour. (until its twice its original size)
Sprinkle flour over the bench and shape the dough into a 20cm x 30cm rectangle.
Spread vegemite evenly over the dough and then sprinkle with grated tasty cheese.
Roll dough (like a swiss roll). Place in greased bread pan. Cover with plastic wrap and leave to rise for a further 30 minutes.
Bake at 220 degrees for 30 minutes. (Until knocking on the base of the bread produces a hollow sound)
Serve warm with butter.
