Chicken Ladder

This is a follow-up to the mechanical iris chicken coop door. I had some cement chunks in the coop to help the step up to the door. But I wanted something nicer, and more permanent. I have seen wood ramps like these, so I decided to make my own.

Materials/Tools

Materials:

  • Wood board (wide x thin)
  • Wood board (thin x thin
  • 2 x 4 (short length)
  • Wood glue (Titebond lll)
  • Screws

Tools:

  • Chop saw
  • Staple gun
  • Drill

Cut

Cut the thin pieces of wood so they are as long as the plank is wide.

Attach Rungs

Place a line of glue on one side of each rung. Then put that side on the wood plank. Flip it over and use a staple gun to secure the rungs to the plank.

Set Height

Cut the 2 x 4 to slightly less than the height from the ground to the base of the door. Then screw on end of the ramp to the end of the 2 x 4.

The End

Now that you are done, make sure the chickens can use it. place on at the pace of it and come back later, if it has left, then it works. If it hasn't, it may work and it may not. It could have just left and come back.
