Chocolate Bacon Jalepenos

jalepenos.jpg

These were an experiment my aunt wanted me to try for her fiance, to see if they wanted them for the wedding. They turned out to be delicious. Sorry about the lack of pictures, I made these a few days ago and didnt thin i would make them into an Instructable. This is my first one as well, so I hope you like them.

Materials

Food:
Around 12 jalepenos
1 8oz brick of cream cheese
1 pound of bacon
1/2 cup chocolate chips
Crisco
Cheese or spices if you want them

Utensils:
An oven
Cookie Sheet
Baking/Cooling rack
Knife
Spoon

Preparation

To start this off, you need to halve all of your jalepenos. Scrape out all of the seeds ant pith (I used a spoon for that part). WASH YOUR HANDS WHEN YOU FINISH CUTTING THEM. Mix all of your spices in to the cream cheese if you want spices at all. Preheat your oven to 450 degrees, and cut the package of bacon in half (my package had 12 strips, which turned into 24 half strips, just enough for my jalepenos).

Cream Cheese and Bacon.

Fill all of your jalepeno halves with a small spoon full of cream cheese. Do not over fill, as the cheese will puff up in the oven. I made the cheese level with my cut on the jalepenos. After you get all of the cream cheese in (I ate my extra cheese), wrap each jalepeno in a half strip of bacon. Stick a toothpick through the whole thing, connecting the bacon ends so they don't unravel in the oven.

Bake

Place all of your jalepeno poppers (as my family calls them) cream cheese side up on your baking rack. Place the loaded baking rack on the cookie sheet to catch any drippings. Bake them at 450 degrees until the bacon is cooked and crispy, about 20 minutes, but check them about ten minutes in to get a good estimation of what time to pull them out.

Chocolate

Let them cool partially, and then mix the chocolate chimes with the Crisco. I melted mine in 30 second increments in the microwave, pulling them out to stir each time, but you can make a double boiler if you like. after you have a bowl of melted chocolate, drizzle it over the jalepeno treats with a spoon, but don't overdo the chocolate, because you still want it to taste like bacon and cream cheese and jalepeno too. Let the chocolate harden on and you should end up with something similar to the picture.

Enjoy!

Eat one. Eat them all. Give them to your aunt. I dont care. They are delicious, trust me on that one.
