Chopstick Rest From Chopstick Wrapper

This is a simple little chopstick rest that you can make from the disposable wrapper that the chopsticks come in. It only takes a minute or two, is pretty sturdy and makes a nice place to rest your chopsticks between bites.

You're probably at a restaurant and have these already.

Fold about an inch of the wrapper behind the rest. It doesn't matter exactly how much, you don't need to be precise.

Fold the rest of the wrapper back and forth so that it zig-zags, with each section about 1/4" to the right of the one below. You should have three or four flaps. Take whatever material is left at the end and fold it underneath so that the whole piece is about 1-1/2" long.

At this point, you want to have roughly an equal thickness of paper all along the piece, otherwise it won't hold the finished shape well. If one end is too thin, just fold a little more paper over from the top to stiffen it.

Fold the whole thing in half with a soft crease.

Fold the two edges underneath and press tightly. At this point it should look like an extruded triangle.

The last step is to squish down the center, which will give the chopsticks a place to sit and also help the piece hold its shape. Pinch one end and squish out the center. Then do the other end. Sculpt the piece so that it makes a nice saddle in the middle to hold the chopsticks.
