Christmas Origami Tie

Need a Christmas tie in a hurry? Make one with wrapping paper, some decorations and this simple step by step guide.

You will need:

  • Wrapping Paper
  • Scissors
  • Elastic Cord
  • Decorations labels, bows etc.

Download/print the origami instructions to create your tie, use the steps below to help if you get stuck.

Cut Out a Large Square

Roll out your wrapping paper and cut out a square with sides of approximately 50-60cm in length. Fold it in half diagonally to help make the prefect square

Fold Halves Together

Fold the square in on itself to meet the fold made in the previous step

Fold the Top Down

Fold down the top portion so that it is level with the two pointed sides of the tie

Fold Point Back on Itself

Fold this point back on itself about two thirds of the way back to the top of the tie

Fold Back Again

Fold back again beyond the top of the tie

Shape the Knot

Fold to make creases on both corners and then fold the corners back on themselves along this crease

Tun Over and Fold in the Sides

Turn the tie over and fold both sides into the centre line. For a narrower tie, fold the paper over the centre line and secure with some tape.

Attach Elastic Cord

Cut a suitable length of elastic cord and secure to the top of the tie using staples or hot glue.

Decorate Your Tie

Complete your tie as you would your gifts, with some tags, bows, ribbons and anything else you fancy.
