Christmas Ornament Tutorial
christmas scene.jpg

Hey guys, today I will show you how to make this beautiful Christmas ornament in Adobe Photoshop. Instead of writing a very long instructable on how to make it, I went ahead and made a video of me doing just that, although I did do some edits after the video ended (I.E, adding lights to the tree and added some vibrancy to the picture) So I hope you enjoy this tutorial, please tell me if there is anything I can help with, and let me know if yall would like more of these tutorials, thanks for watching, and if you do a different edit and my tutorial helps please send pictures, I would love to see what you guys come up with.

here are the pictures you'll need for this projects along with a link to my deviant art if you wish to see more of what I do, and tell me if you would like a tutorial on some of the stuff i've already done

Thanks for reading and watching

Zipp file with all of the pictures in it:

Looks Like I Gotta Write Stuff

Well, turns out instructables wont let me publish stand alone video instructions unless I have a few steps in the instructable to go along with it, so here are the steps to make the Christmas ornament in word form,

(Step One)

image_3257.jpg

Get the background picture I included in the zipp file, and place it into Photoshop, then get the Christmas tree picture I also included and place it into the same work space and position it over the Christmas ornament, lower the opacity to about 50% to see where you want to place it, once the picture is in the optimum position you may now either use the pen tool to outline the Christmas ornament to cut out the shape or you may create a layer mask to shade down the image to shape it to the ball (I prefer the ladder) Once shaded or cut down if you haven't made a layer mask already, do that, then shade the outside edges of the ball to reveal the lights reflecting off the glass ball, once thats done and you think it looks good then its time to move onto step two

(Step Two)

now you need the picture of the model or what ever picture you're using and commence the tedious task of outlining the entire body using the pen tool, unless you are able to use the auto select tool, then do that instead, to outline the woman/whatever you're using first select the pen tool then click somewhere on the outside of the subjects body, then click, that will be where you begin and finish, then keep outlining her body until you come back to where you started, to make the curves using the pen tool click and hold the mouse then drag the mouse and that will bend the line, once you are back to where you started and the path is closed, right click and choose make selection, this will turn the pen line into a selection line then you may drag the subject to the ornament picture and place her where ever you like, now for step Three

(Step Three)

Now you need the carriage This one is pretty simple, just go to the carriage picture and select the magic wand tool, then click on the surrounding white space and that will chose all the white, then go to the top of the page and go to selection and select invert, that will select the carriage instead of the white, then just drag the carriage to the main picture and place it where you like, if you are wondering how to do any of this just refer to my video, where just show you how to do everything. ON TO STEP FOUR!!!

(Step Four)

Ok this one is very simple, the Santa is already cut out, all you have to do is drage him to the main picture and resize him

STEP FIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Step Five)

This one is pretty much just putting dots onto the tree to make it look like lights, just pick a bright color and go to town

Now you can add some vibrance if you want, just go to the bottom of the layers section and go to vibrance (I also do this in the video) then you can go select the tree picture in the layers section and grab a soft brush, make it big and put the opacity to around 20% then go over the whole picture once to give it the transparent look, or dont, do whatever you want

Thats pretty much it.

I go over this in more detail in the video, please comment if there is anything in can help with
