Christmas/New Year's Decoration (from Old Calendar and Empty Can)

It’s the end of the year and old calendars are being thrown away. Here’s an idea how to use them and transform to New Year decoration.

Materials and Tools

Picture01.jpg
Here are the materials and tools you will be needed:

1. old calendar,
2. empty can,
3. needle,
4. diagonal cutting pliers
5. needle nose pliers.
6. scissors
7. steel wool

Scissors and steel wool are missing on the picture below but you can see them on step 2.

Handling the Can

Cut out the can (picture 1) and clean the front side of it with the steel wool (picture 2).

Making the Stars

It's time to make some stars.

Make stencils out of paper in the shapes of a star in different sizes (picture 1), put them on the prepared piece of tin and cut the stars out (picture 2).

Make holes at the two opposite ends of the star using a needle (picture 3).

Ring Tags

Cut out the spiral from the old calendar in order to get ring tags (picture 1).

Connect the ring tags into a chain taking care that the ends are overlapping so that the chain would be stronger (pictures 2 and 3).

Finish

Hang cut out stars through holes on the chain and you get a Christmas tree decoration (pictures 1 and 2).

Other option

If you curve the wire from the calendar at the ends (picture 3) and hang star chains on it you can get a wall or shelf decoration (pictures 4 and 5). Here you have to pay attention to making a balance on the wire and fix it with some glue so that the chains wouldn’t slide down.

Now you can enjoy your Christmas/New Years decoration!
