Cleaning a CZ720

Hello! My name is Joseph Wynia and I am hunting certified, have passed my firearm safety course and love shooting skeet. I help teach people firearm safety and how to have fun safely with guns. Today I’m going to show you how to disassemble, clean and reassemble a CZ720, semi-automatic, shotgun. Odds are that a new CZ720 owner will not know how to clean their firearm. Let’s get started and teach you how to clean your CZ.

Disassembly

The first step in cleaning A CZ720 is the disassembly. Lock back the action by pressing the small button on the carrier and pulling back on the charging handle, this should lock the action in place. Now that the firearm is free from the tension applied to the inner spring we can begin removing parts.

Barrel and End Cap

To begin disassembly, screw off the end cap on your magazine tube. After the cap is removed the forearm grip should simply slide off as it is only held on with friction. Now the magazine tube and spring should be exposed. With the action still locked, pull upward on the barrel to remove it. Remove the gas piston next. If the gas piston is not on the magazine tube, it is possible that it is inside the bottom portion of the barrel.

Removing the Bolt

After the gas piston has been removed from the magazine tube, apply downward pressure to the magazine spring and release the action by pressing the large button on the side of the receiver. SLOWLY release pressure until the action is about halfway across the bolt opening. While still applying pressure to the magazine spring, remove the charging handle from the side of the bolt. Slowly release pressure on the magazine spring and the bolt will now exit the front of the receiver (Be careful as the bolt and bolt arm are in different pieces and will fall apart upon removal.) Lastly, remove the magazine spring.

Cleaning

Cleaning a firearm is fairly simple. Take a cloth and some gun oil and wipe down all of the parts. Do not forget the choke in the end of the barrel. Wiping down the exterior of the firearm is recommended as well because the oil on a person’s hand can cause the gun to rust.

Reassembly

Reassembling a CZ720 is relatively the same procedure as disassembling one just in reverse. Start by putting the magazine spring back onto the magazine tube.

Reassembling the Bolt

Bolt Carrier.JPG

The guide for the bolt has two slots cut into it on one side. These slots will match up with two extrusions on one side of the bolt carrier. Set aside the bolt arm and guide for now. The bolt and bolt carrier will also slot into each other in a similar manner and only fit in one direction. The under side of the bolt carrier should have a small concave portion which will slot nicely with the extrusion on the other side of the bolt arm. Now your bolt is ready for insertion.

Begin by sliding the bolt back into the receiver. At about halfway across the bolt opening on the side of the receiver, replace the charging handle into the side of the bolt. After the charging handle is back in the bolt, lock back the action again by pressing the button on the bottom of the carrier and pull back the action. If the action was released and the bolt is seemingly locked in the forward position, simply apply downward force to the bolt arm. Once the action is locked back, replace the gas piston and barrel one after the other. Slowly release the action by pulling back on the charging handle and pressing the button on the side of the receiver. Slide the forearm back over top of the magazine tube and press down so the forearm slots into the receiver. Finally replace the end cap.
