I got this idea to make these from the book What's New, Cupcake? They were made from cake mix, frosting, caramel, dates, cornflakes, and M&M's.

Step 1: Take your mini cupcakes and frost them with chocolate icing.

Step 2: Microwave about 6 caramels at a time for about 10 seconds on high. After that flatten the squares of caramel out, then cut to desired shape which is wings.

Step 3: Form the wings and dates together to make a cockroach body. Next, cut a brown M&M in half, then place it at the very front tip of the date and wings. Place a few spoonfuls of chocolate icing in a ziploc baggie and make a tiny cut on the tip of the bag. Squirt out two lines of frosting onto the body to make the antennas.

Step 4: Now, place the cockroaches onto the cupcakes. Add a few cornflakes here and there to represent trash. Also, you can make about 12 roaches and leave the other 12 mini cupcakes to just put cornflakes on them.

Good Luck!
