Colorful Face Art

1.jpg

I started out by drawing a face, and I liked the way the face looked as a sketch, but it was kind of plain, so I decided to paint the background. I made this because I wanted to make something that was colorful, but i wanted to face be with a pencil. For this, you can put different details, like a different shirt, hair, or colors.

Materials

  • Canvas ( mine was 8” by 10” )
  • Pencil ( I used a 6B )
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Paint Brush ( or brushes )
  • Water

Guidelines

Draw your guidelines. I drew a circle, and then a vertical and horizontal line. I extended the circle into an upside-down egg shape for the face shape. I drew two ovals on the vertical line and a dash halfway down from the line. Then a dash halfway down from that line.

Extend Guidelines

Then I drew two almond eye shapes a with circles in the middle. I turned the first dash into a curve and extended the second into a mouth shape.

Start Details

Then I added eyebrows and shaded the edges furthest from the middle on the eyes. I also darkened all the base lines. I detailed the eyes with a circle in the middle and the upper right corner for the pupil and highlight, and darkened the top of the eye.

Add More Details

I defined the face outline and added shading on the sides of the nose. I slightly outlined the hairline and ears. I also added a neck.

Start Shading

Then I outlined the hair more and darkened the nose a little. I made the bun by just drawing an oval overlapping the top of the head.

Shade

I darkened everything and added a few stray hairs on the sides of her face. The shading was basically just the edges of everything darker.

Paint

I then painted a bunch of colors on the edges. Make sure you only use colors that pair well. I used pinks, yellows, reds, and oranges. If I would’ve added purple, then it might have been brown in places. Now you're done!
