Cootie Catcher

Cootie catchers are just simply fun. As a kid especially they were always made with friends and played with all the time. I remember as a kid I loved making them. Here are some steps on how you can create your own cootie catcher yourself.

Materials:

- a sheet of computer paper (optional: colored paper)

- four different colored markers

- a pen

- a pair of scissors

Creating the Square

Take your sheet of paper and fold one of the corners diagonally towards the edge of the paper. Make sure that both edges are lined up.

Cutting the Square

Take your scissors and cut along the excess paper that isn't used to make the square. This piece should not have two layers on it.

Folding the Square in Half

Open the square up so that it isn't folded diagonally anymore. Fold your square in half. Making sure to keep all the sides and corners lined up.

Unfold the square completely. There should be four smaller squares created in the larger one from folding. Begin to fold each corner inwards. Use the fold lines to help you determine how much you should fold the corner in.

Flip the paper over and fold the corners on this side of the paper in the same way as you did on the other side. The corners should meet at the center.

Adding

Flip the paper over again so that the side with flaps is facing up towards you. Grab your four colored markers and draw a circle of each color on a different flap. Also you can add the name of each color on each flap.

Folding Cootie Catcher in Half

Fold your cootie catcher in half so that two of the colored circles are visible. And then unfold it so that all the colors are visible again.

Creating the Shape

Put a finger in each of the four colored flaps. Use both index fingers and thumbs from your hands. Once your fingers are in, squeeze the cootie catcher towards the center to form its shape

Open up the first set of flaps to reveal four more inner flaps. Each flap should be slit in half. On each section, write a number with your pen.

Lastly, open up the final set of flaps. On each section, write a fortune with your pen.

Have fun with your new cootie catcher!!! And don't forget that you can personalize it in anyway. :)
