Create Your Own Acorn Necklace

DSC07402.JPG

Although it’s almost spring here in Nothern Europe I am going to show you how to make a beautiful acorn pendant. I love the combination of walnut or other dark sorts of wood with oak and this is my favorite necklace. I hope it will be yours too.

Materials

I don’t have a big stock of wood but this acorn requires only a few small pieces of wood. I used walnut and oak tree in this instructable but the acorn on the cover photo is made of Indian rosewood. I wanted to do as much acorns as possible from the precious small pieces of walnut and oak so I decided to glue other material in both ends.

This is what you need

- small pieces of wood (oak, walnut, birch, indian rosewood or what you have in stock)

- an Lathe and woodturning tools

- saw

- wood glue

- sandpaper (240-400 grid)

- silverwire and pliers

- chain

Mark the center at both ends and place in your lathe. Turn it into a rod with a wide gouge. Mark the beginning and the end of the acorn with a parting tool. Turn your acorn with a finger nail gouge. Use sandpaper if needed before applying wax. Let your acorn dry. Almost done!

Cut out the acorn with a saw. Make an insertion where you want to drill the hole with an awl. Drill the hole. (I used a 0.6” / 1,5 mm drill)

Make a ring with pliers and silver wire. Fasten your acorn to pendant. Fasten on the chain and enjoy! I hope you will be as happy as I am when I wear my acorn necklace and I hope you liked this instructables.
