Creating Custom 90° LEGO Train Points for Your Layout

This article aims to show one how too create custom 90° LEGO Train Points I made for my LEGO Railway layout. The reason for creating these custom 90° LEGO Train Points, is that the resultant 90° turn is half the width, when compared with a regular LEGO 90° Point arrangement. And hence you save on valuable Track Layout real-estate. The out of the box set-up requires 4-pieces of track instead of 3-pieces to create a 90° turn. Also by using these custom 90° LEGO Train Points, you end up with many more new layout options as a bonus.
The photograph above shows two of my Custom 90° LEGO Train Points I have made for my own layout. There modification is fairly straightforward, if somewhat fiddly. The main requirements are for you not to rush the whole exercise. The custom 90° LEGO Train Points pictured in this article are the first that I have made. Now the concept has been proven, my next batch should be somewhat neater in finish. That said, as I intend to use ballast on my finished Track Layout, most of the imperfections should be obscured.
Goal

On close inspection of the standard LEGO Train Track Point it can be seen that the turn-off begins to head towards the creation of 90° LEGO Train Point, but heads in the opposite direction. If you take two curved pieces of Track joined together and place it on top of LEGO Train Point you can plainly see this. Our goal is to modify the standard LEGO Train Point so that its final curve matches that of the two curved pieces we placed on top.
Precautions:

Before and after creating your own Custom 90° LEGO Train Points, please undertake an audit of all your fingers and thumbs. Upon completion, should there be a discrepancy in the values obtained, you must have done something wrong. That said, I take absolutely NO responsibility for the situation you find yourself in.
As previously mentioned, the process in creating the custom 90° LEGO Train Points requires care as part of the process requires the use of very sharp tools, including the use of a Razor Blade. If you are under 14, I suggest you convince a suitable adult to undertake the cutting parts of the exercise.
