Crinkly Cat Toy From Umbrella Cover

Ever wondered what to do with those pesky umbrella covers? They make great cat toys when combine with just a few other items you probably have in your house right now.

Our cat loves anything crinkly and goes crazy for this one. She likes to bat it around and bunny kick it. The only thing that would make it better is if it had catnip in it.

(This project is part of my Girl Scout Gold Award focused on upcycling and recycling broken umbrellas. See other ideas here: https://sites.google.com/site/upcycledumbrellas/projects)

Cut the crinkly packaging into one or two smaller pieces and crumple loosely.

You might have to play around with this to figure out how much crinkly material your umbrella cover needs.

Tie Open End With Fabric Strip or Ribbon

I usually double knot just to make sure its secure.

(Optional) Add Ribbons

As an alternative, you can add extra ribbons and catnip.

Cut ribbons into 6 inch pieces, fold in half and insert into the open end. Using a sewing machine or needle/thread, sew the opening closed with two row of stitching for extra durability.

VoilĂ ! Happy Cat!

You can also add jingly bells and feathers to the ribbon for added interest.
