Crochet Animal Keychains (Bear)

This Instructable will show you how to make a cute crochet bear keychain. These are great to carry around on a keychain, a backpack (above), or just in your pocket as a fun thing to fidget with.

This is part of a series of Crochet Animal Keychains I am making. Currently, you can also find Instructables for a pig, a dwarf hamster, and a dinosaur in addition to this bear.

Supplies

Supplies:

Polyester stuffing

#4 Light Brown yarn

#4 White yarn

2x 8mm flat-backed eyes

Jump ring

4 in. Ball chain

Tools:

4.25mm Crochet hook

Scissors

Jewelry pliers

Hot glue gun

Yarn needle

RD1: 6 SC in MR.

6 Single Crochet in Magic Ring.

RD2: INC in Each ST

Increase in each Stitch.

RD3: * 1SC, INC ** Repeat From * to ** for the Rest of the Round.

* 1 Single Crochet, Increase ** repeat from * to ** for the rest of the round.

RD4: * SLST Into Base of CH ** SC4, Repeat From * to **for Next Ear 1 SC Into Remaining STS.

* Slip Stitch into base of Chain ** Single Crochet 4, repeat from * to **for next ear 1 Single Crochet into remaining Stitchs.

RD5-6: 1 SC in Each ST

For rounds 5 and 6,1 Single Crochet in each and every Stitch.

RD7: SC 11 Stitches.* SLST Into Next Stitch. CH 4. SC Into Second CH From Hook. SC 3. SLST Into Base of CH. ** SC 3. Repeat From * to ** for Next Leg. SC 1 Into Remaining Stitches.

Single Crochet 11 stitches.* Slip Stitch into next stitch. Chain 4. Single Crochet into second Chain from hook. Single Crochet 3. Slip Stitch into base of Chain. ** Single Crochet 3. Repeat from * to ** for next leg. Single Crochet 1 into remaining stitches.

RD8-10:1 SC Into Each and Every Stitch

1 Single Crochet into each and every stitch for the next 3 rounds

RD11: SC 11 Stitches.* SLST Into Next Stitch. CH 4. SC Into Second CH From Hook. SC 3. SLST Into Base of CH. ** SC 3. Repeat From * to ** for Next Leg. SC 1 Into Remaining Stitches.

This round is the same as Round 7

Single Crochet 11 stitches.* Slip Stitch into next stitch. Chain 4. Single Crochet into second Chain from hook. Single Crochet 3. Slip Stitch into base of Chain. ** Single Crochet 3. Repeat from * to ** for next leg. Single Crochet 1 into remaining stitches.

RD12: * SC 1 DEC. ** Repeat From * to ** to End of Round.

* Single Crochet 1 Decrease, **Repeat from * to ** to end of round.

Time to Stuff the Bear

Take a generous portion of polyester stuffing and stuff the bear until it is firm.

RD13: DEC 1, SLST Into Next Stitch. CH 3. 1 SLST Into Second CH From Hook. SLST 1, SLSt Into Base of CH. DEC Into Remaining Stitches Until Closed. FO

Decrease 1, Slip Stitch into next stitch. Chain 3. 1 Slip Stitch into second Chain from hook. Slip Stitch1, Slip Stitch into base of Chain. DEC into remaining stitches until closed. Finish Off

Use your yarn needle to finish closing the bear.

Snout in White: RD1: 6 SC Into MR. RD2: 1 SC Into Each ST FO

RD1: 6 Single Crochet into MR.

RD2: 1 Single Crochet into each Stitch. Finish Off and weave in the ends.

Finishing the Bear

Cut a small brown oval from your felt and glue to the snout.

Glue the snout and eyes to the face of the bear as seen in the picture.

Now just add the jump ring (using the Jewelry Pliers if you need) to the bear right behind the ears and attach the ball chain.


Now you have a cute keychain to hang off your keys or a backpack!
