Crocheted Lace Snowflake
lovely lacey snowflakes make beautiful Christmas tree ornaments, wintery coasters or just to decorate anywhere.
Supplies
White or light blue fingering weight yarn, 3.0 mm crochet hook, scissors, seven pins, fabric stiffener (or glue that dries clear and hard),a paint brush, a ruler, a piece of card board (about 5"x5") and wax paper (just big enough to cover the card board). Abbreviations: (U.S. terms) rnd.= round, ch.= chain, sl.st.= slip stitch, sc.= single crochet, dc.=double crochet, trc.= triple crochet.
Rnd. 1
Ch.5 and sl.st. to form a loop. ch.3. then dc.11 into the ring joining with a sl. st. to the ch. 3. then sew in the tail around the tight circle in the very center, snip off the excess.
Rnd.2
(Ch. 3 then dc.2) in between the first 2 dcs. you made in the first rnd., (ch.2 and dc.3) in between the next 2 dcs. Ch.4. Repeat in between * * all the way around. *dc.3 in between the next 2dcs., ch.2, dc.3 in between the next two dcs., ch. 4.* Join with a sl.st. to the first ch.3.
Rnd.3
(Sc.1 ch. 2 and sc.1) in the first ch. 2 space. (dc.3, trc.2, ch.3, trc.2, dc.3)in the first ch. 4 space. repeat in between the * * all the way around. * (Sc.1 ch. 2 and sc.1) in the next ch. 2 space. (dc.3, trc.2, ch.3, trc.2, dc.3)in the next ch. 4 space.* join with sl.st. to the first sc. If you don't plan on hanging the snowflake, finish of right here and sew in the end. Don't worry if your snowflake is all crumpled at this point the process of blocking and stiffener will change that.
Hanging Loop (optional)
ch. 40, cut the yarn and tie the end into the same stitch. Then, sew in the end.
Blocking
Cover the card board with the wax paper and spread out the snowflake. Spread out and pin each of the points 2" from each other. Spray/ paint on stiffener on the snowflake. Apply several coats if necessary. allow to dry (or blow dry) then remove the pins, and enjoy!
