Cupcake Bouquet

I am finally writing my very first instructable! 

I made my very first cupcake bouquet on Valentine's Day for my Mom. Since then, I have been making them for friends and family. 

List of supplies! 
 
*Rice Krispies
 *Butter
 *Marshmallows
 *Cupcakes (I used Betty Crocker Super Moist White Cake mix & followed the directions, only I like to add sprinkles to my mix. It transforms them into FUNFETTI cupcakes!)
 *Bamboo Skewers
 *Colored Sugar
 *Icing (I added red & yellow food coloring to get the orange color)
 *Flowerpot (or any container that you want to put your bouquet into)
 *Plastic Wrap
 *Non-stick spray
Optional: Styrofoam ball (if you don't want to use the rice krispie treats)

Next you are going to make your rice krispie form.

If you are going to just use a styrofoam ball, skip this step and stick the styrofoam ball into your flowerpot/container.

I personally like to use this instead of a styrofoam ball. 
 What a treat for people that after they eat all of their cupcakes, there is another treat! A rice krispie one! 

I make my treats from the directions on the box. If for some reason, the box doesn't come with the instructions, you can find them on their website. http://www.ricekrispies.com/en_US/default.html#/en_US/recipes/the-original-treats

I lay out some plastic wrap onto my countertop. Normally 2 sheets wide. I then spray it with nonstick cooking spray.

After the treats are finished being made, I dump the mixture out onto the plastic wrap and form it into a ball shape, covering it with the plastic wrap at the same time.

After you have finished making your rice krispie treat ball, you are going to stuff your container with something to fill it up. I typically use plastic bags from the grocery. Stick your krispie ball into the top of your container. 

Next you are going to place your cupcakes onto your krispie ball.
I like to stick my bamboo skewers into the cupcakes to hold them into place. Pull the cupcakes off of the skewers, but leave the skewers in the treat ball. Leave the skewers in your krispie ball and cover it with something. I have used a variety of decorative elements in previous bouquets. Some of them are (fake leaves, ribbons and bows). I used a Halloween ribbon that I got from the dollar tree. I wrapped it around the skewers and placed the cupcakes back onto the skewers. 

I mixed red and yellow food coloring to create my orange color. I tend to make my icing much darker than the color of my sugar sprinkles. I like the contrast, but it is just my personal taste. 

I put my icing in a ziploc bag and cut the tip. The best part of these cupcakes is that you do not need to be a master icer (is that even a word)! They just get covered up by the marshmallow petals anyways!

Next up: Decorating!  

Start by pouring your colored sugar into a container with a lid. There will be some shaking! :D

Get out your scissors. I got mine from the dollar tree (see a theme here with me?). I only use these scissors for marshmallow cutting. 
Cut your marshmallows diagonally. See photo.  
Drop your cut marshmallows into the colored sugar and repeat the process for what feels like forever! Every so often put the lid onto your container and shake. This covers the cut part of the marshmallow in the sugar. The inside of the marshmallow is sticky, so it holds the sugar

I finished off the flowers by adding sprinkles to the inside circle. I normally use non pareils, but unfortunately didn't have any in the color that I wanted.
