Custom Shower-Shelf

I made a shower shelf. The reasoning behind me making this was because I do not have enough space in my shower/bath area for toiletries. It gets really messy with bottles everywhere and stuff keeps dropping, and it just gets tiring. I made this shower shelf as a alternative to using the corners or preinstalled shelves in a shower, and can be used in almost any shower. There are shower shelves that exist already too, but they do not have sufficient enough storage for the many things I want to store on it, so I had to make my own.

Supplies

-3D Printer

-Rope/String

-Mirrored Glass (Optional)

Research and Planning

First, I researched ways of adding space to a shower. I did not find a lot of resources, but I found some shower shelves with similar designs off of Amazon and Home Depot, and took the best designs and combined them into one. I also created some of my own designs I could incorporate into the final product.

Imagining Inside of TinkerCad

Second, I drew the design I wanted onto a sheet of paper, removed/added details, and then when I was done I started making it inside of TinkerCad. This can be done in other 3D softwares as well, but I chose TinkerCad because it is the most simple.

Creating the Design

step1.png

When creating the design, you can add/remove from what I did if you do not want/need the accessories. What I did first when making the shelf was create two sides, with hooks on top. These will act as the backbone to the shelves and accessories, which is a necessary step.

Creating the Design Pt. 2

step2.png

After creating the backbones, I made the grated-bottom platforms for your toiletries to sit on. These attach to the inside of each of the spines, and you can make them wider depending on how much stuff you want to store on the shelf.

Creating the Design Pt. 3

step3.png

I then added bottle holders on each side, I did not plan any measurements as I am using custom bottles for the design, but if you plan on using your own bottles, you should measure the diameter of said bottle and change the measurements of the bottle holders accordingly. I also added hooks made from basic shapes, and a drying rack which uses a singular cylinder.

Creating the Design Pt. 4

step4.png

This step is optional, because you may not need a mirror or the box, but I personally decided to create them to give a rough idea of how it would look/work. The mirror has a hook on top which hangs on the drying rack on the bottom, and the box can sit on top of the shelf.

Creating the Design Pt. 5

As mentioned before, I will be using custom bottles for this design. I created the bottles in TinkerCad, and they have functional screw-on caps, and a hollow inside for you to store liquids in. You can use these, or create/use different bottles.

Creating It in Real Life

Because it is a 3D-Printed design, you can adjust the measurements of the bottles and shelf to better fit your shower, which makes it customizable. And because it has custom bottles, you can use the ones in the design or change the bottle holder measurements on your own to fit the bottles you own. Then, you need a string or a rope to help suspend the shelf. The way it works is there are hooks on either side of the shelf, and you attach a rope from both hooks and it hangs on your shower head. This also makes it customizable because you can choose the rope length to help adjust the height at which the shelf suspends, to make sure it does not sit too low or too high.

Enjoy

You can now use the shower shelf. It comes with a mirror you can hang on the drying rack, a drying rack for your wash clothes and for the mirror, hooks for your Loofah's and other things you may need to hang, 2 grated-bottom platforms for your toiletries, 2 bottle holders with custom bottles on each side for shampoo and body wash, and lastly an optional box you can keep small things inside. I believe I made an efficient enough shelf to the design that I liked, and I believe this may inspire others to create their own shower shelves to help them organize their shower better--because if it is anything like my shower, they may need it too.
