Cutting a Pineapple
Want to know a fun way to cut and display a pineapple?
Perfect for guests or a party.
Supplies
Items needed.
1. Pineapple (1) 2. Cutting board (1) 3. Chef’s knife (1) 4. Fine knife (1)
Step 1: Cutting in Half
1. The first step is to cut the pineapple directly in half the long way(hot dog way). When doing this, use the large chef’s knife. Make sure to apply enough pressure when cutting into the pineapple.
Step 2 : Another Cut
The next step is to cut the two new halves into halves again, cutting down the middle of each half. This will produce 4 total sections.
Step 3: Insides
In the next part, we are going to cut and separate the pineapple from the shell. We will be using the small knife now to get a better cut. Start at the top of the pineapple and cut down in the pineapple. When cutting down, cut at an angle to the outside of the pineapple.
The key here is to cut only until the eyes of the pineapple (this is where knots appear in the pineapple.) Next, you pull out the knife, re-insert it and begin to go down the pineapple. When placing the knife back in, make sure that the sharp end is pointing down to the bottom of the fruit.
Continue the knife until you get to the bottom of the pineapple. After this, pull the knife out and make the same incision as we did previously at the top and do this for the bottom. When done with this, leave the piece of pineapple inside the skin.
Step 4: the Stem
After this step, we will now cut the stem off of the pineapple. The stem is the middle section of the pineapple, we don’t eat this because it is tough and doesn’t hold as much flavor. We will be using the chef’s knife for this step. As seen from the picture below, cut at a 45-degree angle from the outside in. Cut about .5 to 1 inch into the pineapple. Start from the top and work your way down.
In a similar process, cut down and in to the bottom of the pineapple and do this to both sides. This should allow the piece to easily fall out.
Step 5 :
Now, cut across the middle of the pineapple into individual pieces using the chef’s knife. Start at the top and work your way down to the bottom.
Step 6: Final Touches
At this point, it can be taken out and eaten. But if wanting to have a fun way to display the pineapple, move the slices within the shell side-to-side. This is a unique way to show the pineapple. It looks best with a bigger glass piece under or another plate. Enjoy!
