D4E1 - Redesign - DoubleSpinner
The aim of the DoubleSpinner is to create an innovative tool that enables people with disabilities to participate in juggling activities in a simple, safe, and accessible manner. This is achieved by modifying the traditional juggling ring and incorporating a mechanism that significantly enhances ease of use and accessibility.
A product designed for Woesh in collaboration with Howest IPO students.
Woesh is a close-knit community where everyone can grow in, with, and through circus.
Our mission is to spread the circus spirit as widely as possible in a sustainable and caring way.
For 20 years, Woesh has been organizing circus classes, camps, and projects. Circus pedagogy is used to promote the individual, social, motor, and creative development of children, young people, and adults. The motto remains: Circus is for everyone!

Usage manual:
Posture and Positioning:
- Stand upright with enough space around you.
- Hold the handle with both hands.
- Keep it upright at a 90° angle.
Movement:
- Give the rings a swinging turn to the left or right.
- You can create an illusion by moving along with the rings in a circular motion.
Supplies
Required components:
- 2 different lasercut rings
- 4x 3D printed cover plates
- 3 3D printed parts for the handle
- 4x Countersunk Head Screws - M4 x 12
- 4x Hexagon Regular Nuts - M4
- 2x Hexagon Regular Nuts ISO 4033 M6
- 1x Washer ISO 7093-1 - 6 Steel 100 HV Plain
Required tools:
- Lasercutter
- Sandpaper (P80 & P120)
- Spray paint cans
- Wet wipes
- Varnish
- Screwdriver set
- Super glue
Making of the Rings
1. Laser cut the 3 mm ABS sheet using the Illustrator document.
2. Sand the side that will be painted.
3. Round the visible edges by sanding heavily with an 80 grit sandpaper, and then finishing with a 120 grit sandpaper.
4. Ensure the rings are free from dust and grease (use compressed air or alcohol wipes for greasy surfaces).
5. Apply a primer to the smooth side of the rings.
6. Spray paint the rings with the desired color.
7. Optionally, apply a varnish for a glossy finish.
DOUBLERING WITH BEARING HOUSING
1. Press the bearing into one of the bearing housing plates.
2. Push the bearing through the largest hole of the juggle ring.
3. Place the remaining bearing housing plate onto the bearing.
4. Use a hacksaw to cut the bolts to 15 mm.
5. File down any rough edges left from cutting to ensure smooth ends.
6. Align all the holes and insert the bolts up to the nuts.
7. Press the nuts into the bearing housing plate with a hexagon form into the small holes.
8. Tighten the bolts firmly with the hex insert.
Assembly of Handle With Double Ring
1. Insert the Nut by dropping the nut down through the bottom of the handle.
2. Insert the threaded rod through the handle from the conical side.
3. Tighten the Threaded Rod by Screwing it to the right until the nut is fully tightened against the handle housing.
This may take some time, so ensure it is fully secured.
Final Check:
5. Verify that the threaded rod is firmly in place and that the nut is securely tightened against the handle housing, ensuring there is no movement or play.
Handle With Insert Stick
1. Attach the Rubber Bicycle Grip by sliding the rubber bicycle grip onto the plastic handle.
2. Secure the Grip by tightening the bolts on the handle to ensure the grip cannot slide off.
3. Optional Glue Application: If the grip cannot be secured by tightening the bolts, apply a drop of glue inside the grip before sliding it onto the handle to keep it firmly in place.
Final Check:
4. Ensure the grip is securely attached and does not move or slide off the handle.
Assembly for Use
1. Remove the nut and washer by unscrewing the nut from the threaded rod.
2. Remove the first conical Cap by sliding it out of the handle and by pulling it upwards.
3. Attach the smallest Ring by pushing the smallest ring onto the conical cap of the handle.
4. Slide the bushing over the threaded rod.
5. Reattach the first conical Cap by slide the first conical cap back over the threaded rod.
6. Attach the largest Ring with Bearing by pushing it onto the conical cap.
7. Secure the assembly by screwing the nut with the washer back onto the threaded rod..
