DIY Arcade Machine
This is how we created a Oldschool style Arcade
Supplies
- Raspberry pi Model 3 & 4
- Retro Buttons And Joystick Set
- Screen (15'')
- MDF 6mm
- Extension Cable
- HDMI cable
- HDMI to 15 pin adaptor
Setting Up the Screen
We first connected the raspberry pi to the screen, using the mini-HDMI in the chip and the appropriate connector on the screen. We needed to use an adaptor between these two, as the screen housed a 15-pin connector.
Setting Up the Software
The first thing we did was install the Emulator on the Raspberri pi, followed by the software Retropie. After that we formatted a usb drive and putting umulator games on it.
We followed a step by step guide, linked here.
Creating the Box
We have decided to use laser cutting technology to cut our parts from wooden plates, giving us clean edges and a nice looking dark border.
First we created a 3d drawing, and then made the parts in it 2d sheets that can be laser cut. To then be assembled with the help of screws/nails into the retro case.
Assembling It All
Once we have all the wooden plates cut out we assembled it all together, putting the electronic parts in as lasts. Cable management is also very important to ensure it looks clean and prevent any shortcircuits if its dropped.
