Materials: Old shirt, scissors, safety pins.

Step 1

Cut off sleeves using seem as a guide.

Step 2

Cut off the neck of shirt. Cut farther down then where the seam is because that will be the opening for the bag and you’ll need it to be larger so you can fit items in the top.

Step 3

strings.JPG
Use the sleeve scraps to cut strings to hold the bottom of the bag together. Cut the inside portion of the sleeve and cut the ends where it folds, so it makes two strings. Pull the strings slightly to stretch them out a bit.

Step 4

materials 2.JPG
Here are the materials you should have so far: The shirt that is cut and the strings cut for the bottom of the bag.

Step 5

slits.JPG
Cut eight slits total on the bottom of the shirt, underneath of the hem line. Make sure not to cut the hem line because this is the area where the strings will be held. Do three slits evenly spaced on the front and the back. Do two slits on the sides of the shirt.

Step 6

Put a safety pin on the end of a string and put it through the left side slit and the first section of the front of the shirt. Do the same with the right side of the shirt.

Step 7

Do the same thing with the strings to the back. Next you will string through the center section (the only sections that should be open). Take all of the pins out and tie the strings that are next to each other. Then tie the strings that are across from each other to close up the bottom of the bag. Start out by lightly tying the strings so it doesn’t pull out the other side of the string. Once you have all of them tied go back and double knot them and make sure they’re tight.
