Welcome to a little DIY packaging! Learn how to make your own cute little brown paper bags for packaging, gift-giving, and more! I’m not the best at wrapping or making gifts/favors look cute, but recently I had to prepare for a flea market experience and come up with a quick way to make cute gift bags. This DIY is largely thanks to my mom – she helped me figure out how to make these! You can get 4 little bags out of one big brown paper lunch bag (‘big’ being 6″ by 14″)

You'll need:

  • Cheap brown paper lunch bags
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Hole punch
  • Stamps and ribbon of your choice

Prep the Paper Bag

Grab a paper bag. Cut down the middle lengthwise to cut the bag in half.

Next, unfold one of the halves and cut out the square bottom piece – you won’t need it.

Cut the remaining rectangle in half width-wise. Repeat for the other long piece – you now have 4 semi-square pieces!

Glue Your Bags

Grab one of those pieces and glue one edge. Fold it over to glue to the other side, as pictured.

Fold up the bottom about 1/2″ and glue. Glue that little extra flap, too.

Flip over and fold the top edge down 1/2″ and give it a hole punch. Now you can thread some cute ribbon or lace through there to seal the bag! Add some stamps, stickers, or what-have-you – you just made some adorable brown paper gift bags for way cheap!

I decided to stamp my bags with my crochet stamps – check out my Crochet Printmaking DIY for more details! I love the possibilities, and I also love that I didn’t have to buy a mildly overpriced pack of Kraft bags. Making these was super comforting and therapeutic, too – a great craft for unwinding. Easy enough for kids, too!
