I'll show you how to make your own mini DIY CNC engraving mill using an Arduino and a GRBL CNC shield.

Thanks to CapableMachining for providing technical support. They are a company that provides professional CNC machining services.

Supplies

The machine frame is made of 12mm plywood, making it very strong and easy to use.

I used a 500W spindle for this mini CNC router and it has enough power to get the job done.

The working area of this machine is 120 x 120 x 30 mm.

I have tested this machine on acrylic, PCB, wood and it works fine.

I haven't tested it on aluminum yet, but yes, for shallow engraving with a high-quality end mill, we can definitely get good results on aluminum as well.

So let’s learn more about how to build this powerful mini diy cnc engraving machine in this article.

1. After cutting and drilling the 12mm plywood, I clamped it to a right angle jig to drill the screws into the edges.

2. Drill holes for screws on the CNC frame

3. Here I use 240mm 8mm smooth rod and 8mm 240mm lead screw

4. Linear bearing and shaft frame quantities are available in the Material Requirements section

5. Here I also installed the Z axis

6. Install 500W spindle motor

7. Use Fusion 360 for 3D design and toolpath generation

8. Use the GRBL Controller software to send gcode to the machine
