DIY Camera Light Using Aluminium Foil
Getting Bright and Uniform Light is difficult in case of Normal LED strip and Light Bulbs, so I have made a LED Bulb Softbox which diffuses the light into uniform plane so you can get Good Lighting for Macro Photography of your Circuits or Builds.
Aluminium Foil is good Reflector for such light and is available in household and is mainly used in my Project.
Supplies
1. Cardboard Sheets- (Used from old Books)
2. Aluminium Foil Roll
3. Tracing Paper
4. Bulb Holder
5. LED Bulb - (15-20 Watt Bulb for Good Light)
6. Wire - 2 meters
Measure and Cut the Cardboard
My main shape is of Square Frustrum Pyramid, which consist of 4 trapezoids ,one Square and one open square face.
The Dimensions are given in above figure, just cut it to form 4 Equal Trapezoids
Stick Aluminium Foil to Cutted Parts
Just wrap the foil around the cut parts ,make sure it is completely covered from one side, apply glue before wrapping.
Create Square Pyramid
There is simple method to create pyramid,
1. Stick the cut parts using Tape one by one as shown in image on ground
2. Make sure all reflecting parts are on same side.
3. Just Slide the end parts and form the pyramid and apply Tape.
Then Apply Glue on the Edges for perfect Fit.
Create Bulb Holder
The Bulb holder will be fitted to small square of pyramid.
The Square is of 11 cm x 11 cm dimension
And cut a hole at centre of size of bulb holder circle
Wire Bulb and Attach
Attach wires to bulb Holder and fix it inside the Square Cut, and attach the bulb to bulb holder
Stick the Bulb Square to Pyramid
Stick the square cut to bottom of pyramid using glue.
Keep it aside for 2 hrs so it sticks properly.
After the glue has dried apply tape over the edges completely
Testing (Normal Paper Vs Tracing Paper)
I have tested it using two types of Paper
1. Normal Chart Paper- It does not diffuses light properly, it just reflects and gives a circle of light.(Image 1)
2. Tracing Paper - It diffuses Light Properly and Uniformly because it is translucent (Image 2)
So I decided to use Tracing Paper for my Lighting.
Stick Tracing Paper to Pyramid
Cut the Tracing Paper according to square of pyramid.
Then attach it to pyramid with some tape.
And check the results.
Final Test
I am using this lighting for Macro Photography of my projects and electronic builds.
You can see the difference directly ,after using the light and before.
Before I had used Normal LED Strip Lighting so there are interference Shadow Patterns Generated in my photos which is much Annoying,
After using the Light ,all shadows was gone and it got a uniform Lighting.
This DIY Photography Hack costs less than 5 Dollars, and Using household items like Aluminium Foil and Cardboard one can build it easily.
Thank You
