DIY Clock

This exercise is proposed by NOD Makerspace as an exercise included in the Makers for Inclusion Erasmus Plus project.

Make an artsy clock out of plywood or any other material that can be cut with a laser.

Everybody needs a tool to help them tell time, so make two and give one as a gift!

The exercise draws inspiration from here:

but it has been tweaked to suit the project's target audience and equipment available in Romania. The exercise consists of building a clock and giving it your very own twist. This exercise gives children a chance to learn how a laser cutter and CAD software works.

Please make sure you are working in a space suitable for minors, with all safety precautions in place.

Using any type of CAD software, draw your design.

We went with undulating lines but you can go with any kind of design. Make sure you measure the clock mechanism and that it fits inside the clock.

Even though at this moment you only have a design, this will be a real object so take scale into consideration. Measure the pieces and keep a ruler handy to see how big they will be once you cut them.

Moving on to the laser cutter.

Choose your material and make sure you have enough for all the pieces.

Cut the pieces and make sure the clock fits inside.
