String art isn't anything new. I just wanted to merge my country's map and flag together in this art. This can also be done for any country. So grab all the supplies and go make one!

Materials Needed

To make country-map string art you'll need:

  1. Wooden piece (1 inch thick and size of you choice),
  2. Hammer,
  3. Nails,
  4. Crochet threads (all the colors on your country flag),
  5. Paper and pencil.

Preparing the Nails

Take a piece of paper according to the size of the wooden board. Draw an outline of your country's' map with a pencil. Place the paper on the wooden board.

Now start hammering the nails along the traced outline. Try to keep equal distance between the nails. You can mark the places where you want to hammer the nails.

Hammer the nails half way into the wooden board.

As my country's (Bangladesh) flag is very simple (Green flag with a red circle in the center) so it was easy for me to include the flag inside the map. I'm guessing that it would be very difficult for many others.

Anyways, this might take a while but you'll feel great after it's done!

Getting Started

Done hammering the nails? great! Now you can rip off the paper.

Rip it off nice and slow and make sure not to leave any paper scraps on the board.

The String Art!

Choose a starting point. Take the thread, wrap it around any nail and tie a knot.

Start wrapping the thread around the nails randomly but try to keep a sound pattern.

This is the fun part and I really enjoyed wrapping the thread and creating random patterns.

When you'll reach to the end you can simply wrap the thread around a nail and tie a knot. Apply a drop of glue to secure the knot and trim extra thread.

Completing the Pattern

I used red crochet thread to complete the circle in the center.

I started like the previous one. Filling the circle was much easier and more fun!

Tie a knot when you're done. Apply a drop of glue on the knot and trim extra thread.

You can simply attach a hanging mechanism to it (at the back of the board) as you won't need to frame it.

Happy Mother Language Day!
