DIY Flexible Third Hand From Gorilla Tripod

Got some gorilla tripod without a nut lying around the house but I was hesitating to throw it away because I know I can use it somehow. Seeing a third hand with goose-neck I got the idea of replacing it with a gorilla tripod.

Here are material I've used:

  • Gorilla tripod
  • Alligator clips
  • Drill and bits
  • Glue
  • Screw and nuts
  • Soldering stand or any base plate

Drilling the Hole

Make a hole at the end of the gorilla tripod. I only have two alligator clip so I drill two holes with exact diameter of the clips.

Put a glue to secure the clips. It so happen that the diameter of the hole is exactly the same size of the clip and they are coated with rubber that is why I decided not to put any. Without the glue I have the flexibility of rotating the clips and I can remove them and replace them later.

Secure the Tripod on a Base

Since I plan to use the third hand for soldering, I have attached it on a solder iron stand by drilling a hole on the base and relocate the solder holder to accommodate the tripod.

Testing

Now my soldering iron stand with third hand is ready for testing.
