DIY Hand Sanitizer for COVID-19

I am going to show you how to make your own hand sanitizer with regular household items around the house to help you combat the coronavirus. Obviously, this should only be used as a last resort. I seriously recommend using commercial hand sanitizer. But in the case that isn’t an option, turn to this.

Supplies

91% Isopropyl Alcohol (Don’t use 70%)

Aloe Vera gel

Empty bottle

Mixing Bowl

Funnel

Spoon

Measuring Spoon

Research Findings

It turns out you need your hand sanitizer to have about 60% alcohol to be effective against most viruses like Covid-19. We are using a 91% alcohol in our hand sanitizer, but we need to mix it with something so it doesn’t evaporate too quickly and isn’t so harsh on the hands. It turns out a 3 to 1 mixture of the 91% alcohol and Aloe Vera makes your hand sanitizer have about a total 60% alcohol content.

Mixing the Ingredients

Start by measuring out the Aloe Vera. Make however much you want, but remember you need to have 3 times the alcohol to Aloe Vera in your end product. I just made a small batch to test it out. I took a 1 teaspoon measuring spoon of Aloe Vera and put it in the mixing bowl.

Then I added 3 teaspoons of alcohol to it and started stirring with the spoon. It took a few minutes to get it to homogenize.

Pouring Into Bottle

Pretty simple. Use the funnel to help get your hand sanitizer into the bottle.

Using It!

It felt pretty good using it. The aloe made it not irritating to my hands. It did smell pretty strong of alcohol though.
