DIY LED Light Bulb Made From a Cream Jar and an a CFL
In this instructable you are gonna learn how to an easy and beautiful light bulb using easy and cheap materials c:
This project is based on the reuse of the base and the ballast housing of a compact fluorescent bulb with a bottle of cream that works as a light blur and of course the LEDs and electrical components that make the bulb work.
the idea started when i was doing some homework at the afternoon and i realice that i didnt had enough illumination as i wanted, so i started thinking about how fix and improve this, later on looking at the bath bulbs and some empty cream jars that I found there and that was the moment when I came up whit this idea of mixing the jar whit a LED light bulb using an old CFL bulb.
Step 1: Gather the Materials
Pliers
Sandpaper
Soldering iron
a Breadboard
Hot glue gun
- an old CFL bulb
- a cream Jar
- a 470k 1/4w resistor
- two 120 OHMS resistors
- a 16v zener diode
- four 1n4007 diodes
- a 47uF 25 V capacitor
- a .47uF 400v polyester capacitor
- five 3v LEDs
- a PCB
Step 2: Taking Apart the Base and the Ballast Housing From the Rest of the Light Bulb
Using some pliers or a saw remove the "cap" of the bulb and the electronics and discard them, leaving just the base and the ballast Housing.
*remember to be careful with breaking the CFL breathing the gas of the bulb can be very dangerous
Step 3: Cleaning the Jar.
first of all you gotta make sure that bulb base fix the jar.
After finding the perfect jar for the bulb is required to clean, sand and polish the jar.
*remember to be careful with the glass dust, always keep the jar wet to avoid breathing the dust cause it can be dangerous.
Step 4: the Electronics
Assemble the circuit into a breadboard to test if it works correctly, and check out how it looks like with the jar on top.
Step 5: Cutting the PCB
Mark the circles of the size of the ballast housing on the PCB and then cut it to place it inside the base of the bulb with all the electronic compounds.
then assemble the circuit into the laminated sheets and make sure that the internal wiring does not touch each other.
Step 6: Put It All Thogether and Test It Out
Attach and paste the light bulb with the jar, and there you have it an powerful and low budget Led bulb from a reused jar an a CFL.
