I have always been a huge fan of anything fun with lights ( light up shoes, light up mirror, light up hair accessories, light up school supplies, sparklers, fireworks etc.) I guess my excitement for lights rubbed off on my nieces and nephews because they get over the top excited for things with lights ( makes christmas and independence a very enjoyable experience). I decided to make a light box for them to play and have fun with. I will be sharing with you how to make one yourself by simply following the instructions below.

Supplies

A clear/transparent box with lid

Christmas LED string lights

A pair of scissors

Transparent tape

A white plastic bag ( can be substituted with white crêpe paper, white gift tissue paper or wax paper)

TIP: For safety, use LED and not incandescent lights. LED lights are more energy efficient and radiate low heat levels.

TIP: I recommend that you use string lights that do not have the blinking feature for best results.

Cut, Place and Stick

Cut pieces of tape and place aside. Cut the plastic bag an inch or more bigger than the size of the box bottom. Place inside carefully covering the inside bottom of the box. Place one hand on the inside of the box to keep the bag in place while (with your free hand) start sticking the bag to the bottom.

TIP: Turn over the box and see how it looks and if it seems a little off just unstick the bag and try again. It wont damage the end result, infact, it helps so don’t be afraid to try until you get the best look.

Place Lights and Cover

Take the lid/cover of the box and turn over. Place the christmas string lights on the lid, leaving the cord on the outside. Take your box and place on top of lid and seal ( Don’t forget to leave the cord hanging out).

Connect the Lights and Enjoy!

Congratulations ! You made yourself an awesome light box! All you need to do now is to connect the string lights to an outlet. Turn off the lights in the room and enjoy. You can use it with colored paper or construction paper cut into shapes, plastic bingo chips/tokens or any other transparent or translucent objects.
