DIY Mercury Glass

Ever since I moved in to a new place I've been reconsidering the color scheme of my home decor. I've decided to incorporate more metallics or silver accents. I love the mercury glass look but it can be a bit pricey. So I decided to make my own DIY Mercury Glass accent piece, here's how I did it :)

Materials:

-Glass of your choice (I had a vase from from the Dollar Store)

-Towel Rag or Paper Towels

-Spray Bottle

-Water

-Vinegar

-Krylon Looking Glass Silver Spray

-Newspaper or something to cover your workspace

Mix & Spray

Add equal parts of vinegar and water into the spray bottle. Since I have a tiny bottle I only mixed 1 tablespoon of each, which turned out to be enough for this small glass. Spray glass with the mixture, make sure not to spray too much or it will start running down. Then spray a light coat of the Krylon Looking Glass Spray. As you can see by my blurry pic, I did not spray so lightly and it began to run down. Luckily I was able to quickly fix it by wiping it with my towel rag. (Sorry for the horribly blurry picture, it was hard taking it at the same time as I was spraying it, I will definitely use my tripod next time!)

Dry

After spraying it, let it sit for a few seconds and then use a towel rag or paper towel to pat it dry. You can rub off larger areas if that's the style your are looking for.

Repeat

Repeat, repeat, repeat. Remember to spray with the water/vinegar mixture first, then spray with the Krylon Looking Glass Spray, and finally dry with a towel rag/paper towel. You'll have to repeat this process a couple of times until you achieve the desired look. I repeated the process four times, but you apply as many coats as you want to reach the desired result :)

That's It!

I'm still not sure if I want to just add flowers and use it as a vase, so for the time being I have it displayed on my desk and honestly I like it as is :)

UPDATE: I've made another Mercury Glass Vase and made a quick video tutorial :)
