Here is a great way to personalize places or mugs for any future gifts or parties in the future. Monograms are a big trend now and getting pieces personalized can be rather expensive. Making your own monograms adds an extra personal touch to any gift while saving money for you.

Here is what I used to make my monogrammed plate.

A ceramic plate

A dry erase marker

Sharpie Marker - For best results use an oil based sharpie paint pen, but regular sharpies work too

I started my design by drawing it out on the plate with a dry erase marker.

Using dry erase markers is a great way to perfect a design before making it permanent.

When I was happy with the design I decided to start making the design in sharpie.

My next step was to change my dry erase markings to permanent sharpie markings. I transferred to permanent marker by erasing part of the dry erase design and replacing it with sharpie markings.

Slowly I was able to replace my dry erase marker with sharpie.

NOTE: A great trick I learned is if I messed up with the sharpie marker, I was able to mark over it with the dry erase marker and wipe it away. The acetone in the dry erase marker was able to erase the sharpie.

Bake

Once the design is finished I baked the plate to heat transfer the design on the plate.

Set the oven for 350 degrees and bake the plate for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes turn off the oven but leave the plate in to slowly cool down completely. A sudden change in temperature from taking the plate out too early could cause cracks.

After the baking was complete my plate was ready to use!

Remember to hand wash any of your sharpie plates or cups. Machine washing could still take the design off.

Enjoy!
