DIY Phone Holder With Speakers

images.jpg

A simple way to use some old supplies laying around your house. Well, this simple and easy phone holder is a great way to use those random things around your house. It is also a great and cute way to have a speaker that you don't have to pay $300 for.

Supplies

For this project, you will need:

PVC pipe (about an inch wide)

plastic cups

paint and or tape (to decorate)

(idea for how to use tape shown above)

Designing the Project

First, I made a Fusion 360 design of it to see how it could work and figure out my dimensions.

you will need to measure your phone with the case on to help make step 3 easier. (picture shown is how I made the cups and with how it turned out when finished)

PVC Pipe

Next, I got a piece of 1 inch PVC pipe and sketched out how long I wanted the pipe and how long and wide the hole for my phone and charger would need to be.

I did my PVC 7.5" long for 1 inch on each side to go into the cups and another inch before the hole for my phone cut out began.

Your dimensions maybe different depending on what phone you have. I have an iPhone 12 Pro and I made the top hole 3.5" long and 1.75" wide. On the bottom I put a smaller hole for my charger to go through that I made 3/4 " long and 1.75" wide.

The Cups

I then picked out what cups I wanted to use. I sketched out where I wanted the holes for the pipe to go through. I used an Exacto knife to carefully cut out the circles.

Cutting Out the Pipe

This part was harder to do. I took a small drill saw and started to go around all the squared on the PVC pipe to help cut them out. some parts were smaller and I had to use a knife to help cut them out with the help of my teacher but eventually once they did come out I took a small cloth and threaded it through the pipe to get ride of any dust left over. (tool I used shown above)

Assembly / Decorating

Now that everything was cut out and ready, I painted it all black and put some designs on with acrylic paint. I personally didn't need any glue or tape to hold the pipe inside. From the paint that got on the sides of the cup that dried it helped grip and hold the pipe in place.

For more stability, you can carefully put some hot glue around the sides of the circle in the cups that we cut out and put the pipe on that to help it stay secure.

And that's it! This project is super simple but also very customizable for anyone who would want to make one.

Thanks for reading and enjoy your new simple to make phone holder!
