DIY Portable Camping Shower / Rinser

In this project, we'll show you how to make a portable camping shower / rinser that can be pressurized for comfortable water flow. It's also lightweight and easy to store.

Scissors to cut the hose.

You will want to use a NEW weed sprayer, so you're not dispensing any pesticide remnants on yourself or other things you're trying to rinse off.

First cut off the trigger handle off the weed sprayer hose.

We cut it about 6" from the trigger handle in case we ever wanted to converted it back to a weed sprayer for whatever reason. You can cut at any length, but you want to keep it as long as possible from the bottle so that you have maximum hose reach for the final product.

The plastic hose is super easy to cut, you can use regular scissors.

Having cut the hose and removed the trigger from the sprayer, insert the barb fitting into the end of the hose.

Optionally, you can use a hose clamp around the hose for extra security, but we didn't find this totally necessary.

On some weed sprayer models, there are restrictors in the dip tube (the tube the goes inside the bottle).

In our case, we had a restrictor on each end of the dip tube. Make sure to remove any visible restrictors on this tube because they will cause the water flow to be pretty crummy if left in.

You can simply pull one of them out and the other required a long wire to poke it out from the other side.

Moving on to the best part.

Wrap teflon tape around the threads of the barb fitting. Make sure you wrap clockwise when looking at the threaded portion, so the teflon tape doesn't unravel when screwing on the sink sprayer fitting.

Once the teflon tape is on, screw on the female sink fitting onto the male end of the barb by hand as tight as you can. Then do a final tightening with a pair of wrenches.

Afterwards, just reassemble the sprayer bottle, fill it up with water, pump it a few times and use the thing.

If you wanted to use this as a solar shower, you can paint the body of the bottle black allowing the thermal mass of the sun to heat up the water inside giving you a relatively warm shower.
